2020 News

After a successful and incredibly busy 2019, we are pleased to announce lots of new and exciting changes ahead of the new year:

New Staff 

DM Habens are pleased to welcome a new member of staff to the admin team. Leigh will be taking over all Procurement and Purchasing for the company, and will be based in our head office in Southsea.

 

Office Refurbishment 

Our office expansion and refurbishment works at the head office in Southsea is near completion. We have recently expanded our Administration department creating space for our new member of staff and a more open plan, modern working space. In addition to this we have created a new training suite and meeting room, large health and safety store room and a refurbished and modern server room and data store.

 

Digital Construction Software 

We have recently invested in a new digital construction software called ‘Procore’. The software is already being rolled out on new projects starting this year and we have already have lots of positive feedback from both our team.

The software tools include Project Management, Quality & Safety, Design Coordination, and BIM as well as Preconstruction Tender Packages, Financial Management and Resource Management. In due course it is our aim for all site agents to be equipped with an iPad Containing all information needed on site including site drawings, specifications and safety inspections and paperwork at their fingertips. This will not only increase site productivity and ensure our Quality and Safety paperwork  is completed to the highest standards it will also dramatically cut down on the amount of paper work and therefore paper recycling used on site.

 

Training

DM Habens are pleased to announce we are now a BM Trada Q-Mark Fire Door Installation Approved Installer.Our Managing Director Brian Way took part in the Q-Mark fire door installation certification scheme training program which consists of  a  classroom seminar and written examination.

All our office staff have recently completed Procore online training as part of the new digital construction software we have invested in. This included a 2 – 3 hour training session for each certificate including a mixture of seminars and written examinations. Site Agents currently using Procore on their sites have also completed their own online training, meanwhile the remaining site agents and site operatives will be coming into use our new training suite in the upcoming months.

 

New Health & Safety Consultants 

We are pleased to announce the appointment of our new Health and Safety Consultants – HCS Safety. We look forward to working with them this upcoming year.

The software will integrate between both our subcontractors and clients from tender stage to project completion ensuring our sites run as smoothly and effectively as possible.

BM Trada Q-Mark Fire Door Approved Installer

DM Habens are pleased to announce we are now a BM Trada Q-Mark Fire Door Installation Approved Installer.

Manufacturers of fire doors are required by law to demonstrate the ability of their products to resist the passage of fire. However, if they are not properly installed, their fire resistance capabilities can be seriously compromised.   Q-Mark Fire Door Installation certification provides reassurance to specifiers, contractors and end users that their chosen product has been installed correctly and will perform as intended.

To achieve this certification, our Managing Director Brian Way took part in the Q-Mark fire door installation certification scheme training program which consists of  a  classroom seminar and written examination.

Successful completion of this course is one of the mandatory requirements for being awarded Q-Mark certification.

Designed specifically for fire door installers, it covers:

  • Installation of a fire door – an in-depth guide
  • Door plugging and the Q-Mark certification process
  • Q&A session
  • Written exam

Kenwood is nearing completion…..

We started at Kenwood in April 2016 and are very proud of our achievements. Works have included the design, programming, demolition and phased construction of an industrial building referred to as Unit 10 (to house the outlet shop, service center, training rooms and academy facility), the demolition of the existing academy block and construction of a new two storey cafeteria block within Unit 1 (to house the cafeteria, kitchen, showers and toilets, offices, meeting rooms, a new electronics laboratory, a CED area, Braun showroom, test kitchen, colour laboratory and other areas.

New recruit…..

Habens are pleased to welcome Aidan Thomas and Ray Palmer on board.

Aidan is a graduate project manager and joined us in September. Aidan is currently project managing Bishop Street, North Lodge and Milverton House.

Ray is our in-house Quantity Surveyor and has been successful in tendering us amazing new projects.
