Works at St James Hospital, Southsea, Portsmouth took place on behalf of Solent NHS Trust and Studio 4 Architects. The project ran between July 2018 until January 2019. The works were carried out adjacent to existing occupied buildings in a fully functioning hospital campus with the roads, pedestrian pavements and car park facilities being in continuous use.
The works comprised of a new road and footpath between ‘The Orchards’ and ‘The Limes’ buildings with ancillary works; two areas of new car parking outside ‘The Limes’ building and one area near ‘The Orchards’ building with ancillary works; the construction of a new service yard including three small building plus substation and switch gear enclosures and a wall enclosing the whole area with pedestrian and vehicular gates together with a concrete hardstanding and the installation of drainage, lighting and power; the provision of in-ground services from the site entrance at Locksway Road to various points in the hospital site. This was a great opportunity for our in house Groundworks team to get properly stuck into a project.
